There is an ongoing rumor that Apple is in the process of making a VR headset that will be able to incorporate both the AR and the VR technologies. According to Apple’s chief executive officer Tim Cook, a virtual reality headset is of equal importance as the iPhone.
The project of making the VR has been codenamed T288 and though it is still in the preliminary stages, there are indications that the VR headset will be launched in 2020. It is claimed that Apple’s VR headset will be using a fast-speed wireless technology and will be connected to a dedicated box. This dedicated box will be powered using a custom-made Apple processor that will be more powerful compared to the processors that are currently being used in the other VR headsets.
Unlike other VR appliances like the HTC Vive where one has to have a base station installed in a room to know their location, the Apple VR headset will have all the controls done on the headset and the box.
Apple’s competitors like Samsung have partnered with Oculus, who are the manufacturers of the Rift and Go headsets where the VR headsets are operated using Samsung phones. Microsoft has also ventured into the virtual reality market through its HoloLens headset and Windows 1o mixed reality goggles.
Apple has not made its intention to come up with a VR headset public. Instead, the company has been hiring professionals behind the scenes. Patent rights have also been filed one of which is aimed at using virtual reality to help in getting rid of motion sickness as well as boredom for travelers while in the vehicle.
The wireless technology on which the Apple VR headset will be operated on is termed as 60GHz WiGig. There will also be a 2nd generation version termed as 802.11ay that will have a higher speed and will be more ideal for those who need high-end virtual reality headsets that will not be tethered to a computer.
Since Apple will have built its own chips, they will be able to remain in control of its VR features and be in control on when they will be introducing new devices into the market.
The images in Apple’s VR headsets will be more lifelike as a result of the 8K display and this will help to create a great experience when using the VR headsets. Virtual reality lovers and those who want to venture into the world of VR have a great invention to look forward to as far as Apple VR headset is concerned.
